In the Fall, of 2006 I began the coursework to complete a Curriculum and Instruction Masters in Education, Music K-12 degree at SUNY Oswego.
The Core Pedagogical coursework required for this degree program includes:
- EDU 500 – Critical Pedagogy,
- EDU 504 – Principles of Professional Development,
- EDU 506 – Use of Technology for Professional Development,
- EDU 508 – Research Methods for Classroom Practitioners,
- EDU 510 – Educational Assessment,
- EDU 520 – Research Writing, Dissemination for Professional Development.
Two Pedagogical electives were required and I choose to take
- Lit 501- Foundations of Literacy: Birth to Adolescence, and
- Lit 507 – Literacy and Learning in the Content Areas.
There were four courses required from my major content area, which is music. The four music courses, which I took were
- Beethoven,
- American Music,
- African American music in the Americas, and the
- History of Jazz and Rock.
I additionally, took two courses, which I found very interesting. They related to my thesis and although they were not required for my graduate degree I believe they were beneficial to my graduate studies. These two courses were:
- Introduction to Cognitive Science
- Cognitive Musicology
