In the Fall, of 2006 I began the coursework to complete a Curriculum and Instruction Masters in Education, Music K-12 degree at SUNY Oswego.

The Core Pedagogical coursework required for this degree program includes:

  • EDU 500 – Critical Pedagogy,
  • EDU 504 – Principles of Professional Development,
  • EDU 506 – Use of Technology for Professional Development,
  • EDU 508 – Research Methods for Classroom Practitioners,
  • EDU 510 – Educational Assessment,
  • EDU 520 – Research Writing, Dissemination for Professional Development.

Two Pedagogical electives were required and I choose to take

  • Lit 501- Foundations of Literacy: Birth to Adolescence, and
  • Lit 507 – Literacy and Learning in the Content Areas.

There were four courses required from my major content area, which is music. The four music courses, which I took were

  • Beethoven,
  • American Music,
  • African American music in the Americas, and the
  • History of Jazz and Rock.

I additionally, took two courses, which I found very interesting. They related to my thesis and although they were not required for my graduate degree I believe they were beneficial to my graduate studies. These two courses were:

  • Introduction to Cognitive Science
  • Cognitive Musicology

To have an understanding of what I have learned from SUNY Oswego,  I believe it might be interesting for you to know somethings about my background in education and in music.
